Taichung to Sanyi Hakka Ancient City 1-day Tour

Sanyi is an important place in the history of Taiwan – most notably as the birthplace of traditional Taiwanese woodcarving art and the gathering place of many of Taiwan’s greatest sculptors. The internationally renowned woodcarving master, Zhu Ming, used to study at Sanyi.

Visit the woodcarving street and tour the incredible Wood Sculpture Museum. Paint a traditional Beijing opera mask, then explore by rail bike the famous attractions scattered throughout Sanyi, such as Sheng-Hsing Train Station, 2nd Time Tunnel, Yutengping Iron Bridge, Liyutan Reservoir, and much more. You will also taste traditional Hakka cuisine on this tour.

Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum

Sanyi Wood Carving Museum hosts a collection of wood carvings by many masters. If you are lucky, you may also view the master wood carver in action.

Step 2

Sanyi

The old Mountain Line Rail Bike. This is a brilliant opportunity to explore the old Mountain train line. Enjoy the impressive alpine views and make sure you take a few photos to look back on later. Note: railway bicycles are reserved online and there are a number of restrictions per day. However, if the reservation is full, other vehicles will be supplied.

Step 3

Sanyi

Beijing Opera Mask Painting activity. Get hands-on with this fun and educational experience by learning how to paint your very own traditional opera mask. Masks and make-up are a unique part of Chinese opera.
